The best dads know how to enjoy snow days in Texas.

During the record breaking cold temperatures, we got 2 inches of rain, sleet and snow along with freezing temperatures to make the neighborhood look magical and secure the kids with not one, but two days away from school. Yes, the excitement is at an all time high. Hoping for lots of sun today with a high of 29, low of 9 breaking another record.

Dallas Ice Storm - January 2026

I grew up in the Midwest (OH, IL, MN, IN) and we would call this a light dusting. Big smile! In fact, we would get two feet of snow overnight in Minnesota and the roads would be clear the next morning.

What's a family do, except enjoy the time together!

• Home cooked meals

• Everyone sleeping in, except for the dog (no morning walk, sorry Charlie)

• Movie night, every night

• Sledding down the driveway (and a nearby school) - reminding the kids that it is ICE!

• Checking in on the in-laws to ensure they have everything they need

• Reminding my teenage son and his friends that pulling a sled behind their Jeep is NOT a good idea - a win for dad!

All our family and friends are doing well.
