We’re on USA Today. Yesterday Mattered More.

Our launch announcement ran on USA Today during the last week in August. Here is the honest version, and the harder story behind it.

Something happened last week that I did not see coming when I started this on Father's Day seven years ago. Our launch announcement ran on USA Today.

I will be straight about what that is. It went out as a press release, not a piece some reporter chose to write. I am not going to dress it up. But it is on USA Today, and I will take it. You can read the full piece here.

Then I put the phone down

I read it back a couple of times, mostly to check it was real. Then I put the phone down, because I had somewhere to be.

I picked my kid up after a hard stretch that needed real help. On the ride to the airport, they told me the gaming PC had been part of the problem, and they did not want to touch it for at least two weeks once we got home.

We got home, had a nice evening catching up. The next day, they asked to game for two hours.

We talked. Really talked. I asked a lot of questions before I gave any answer, because I wanted to understand what the ask was underneath, not just stand my ground. We agreed to one hour, and I get to be the timekeeper.

That is the job this week. Not the headline. A long conversation and a compromise I now must hold to. It is the kind of week I wrote about in When Fatherhood Gets Hard.

Here is the short version. The Best Dads is not a parenting-tips blog, and I am not writing it as an expert. I am a dad who is still figuring it out. Two kids, a wife I defer to more than I let on, and a faith I lean on hard. We learned some things late about how our kids are wired, and looking back changed how I see almost everything about the years before we knew.

The aim is simple. Help one dad a day get through this a little more smoothly, and feel a little less alone doing it. Faith, family, love, life. In that order.
