The best dads wear ashes, all day.

Today is Ash Wednesday. This is the first day of Lent and Christians worldwide receive ashes traced in the form of a cross on the forehead. The ashes represent our mortality and the priest says "Remember you are dust, and dust you shall return." Lent runs for 40 days leading up to Easter Sunday with a focus on prayer, fasting, and almsgiving (or repentance).

A number of years back, I had an interview with a recruiter on Ash Wednesday at the end of the day. I wiped the ashes off my forehead to ensure I didn't send the wrong message. To my surprise, when I joined the call, the recruiter was wearing ashes. A missed opportunity to connect on a different level, and I regretted that action ever since. Consequently, I have not let that happen again. I wear ashes proudly all day, even when someone comments that I have dirt on my head. LOL!
If you want a special treat this Lenten season, I recommend Hallow's Pray40 Lenten Challenge. It is a great way to connect with God and they are offering a free trial.
